Across the nation, criminals have been targeting utility customers with schemes that impersonate utility companies and their actions, either by phone or electronic communications. The utility scams are intended to get your money in an urgent manner often with threats of discontinuing services to follow. For security and safety reasons, we strongly urge customers to recognize the red flags, report any instances and avoid the evolving tactics of utility scammers.

Protect Yourself: Recognize, Report and Avoid Scams

• NEVER give out your personal, financial or banking information over the phone.
• NEVER provide your passwords or personal, financial or banking information in an email.
• NEVER respond to demands of immediate payment over the phone from a caller insisting they represent the utility.

Jackson Energy Authority will NEVER:

• Call and demand immediate payment, especially via a prepaid debit card, gift card, cash reload card, money wire or cryptocurrency.
• Call asking for valuable personal or financial information over the phone.
• Call and threaten to immediately disconnect or interrupt power.
  • Any notice of service disconnection or interruption is issued in writing.
• Automate pop-ups on your computer screen for surveys or reward offers.
  • Special offers, surveys or contests are promoted on our website, social media, mobile ads and email newsletters.
• Email asking for valuable personal or financial information.
  • Do not respond to any emails asking for information or to click a link that appear to come from EPlus.net.
